Sink – how to make the right choice?

Comfort in the first place

To be able to use the sink conveniently, it should be positioned in the centre of the worktop. The best place is the one between the fridge and the cooker. It is convenient to place waste segregation bins under the sink – if you install a space-saver drain trap, then there will be enough space in the cabinet.

S + D for sink and dishwasher

Already at the stage of planning the kitchen, we face the choice: just the sink, or maybe a sink in a duet with a dishwasher? If we choose the S + D option, a one-bowl sink will be sufficient. Most often, in this option, we pick for our dishwasher a one-bowl sink with a drainer, where the drainer is mounted right above the dishwasher. In this way, we create a so-called wet zone in one place. A two-bowl model will work well for a large family that does not have a dishwasher in the kitchen. Supporters of minimalism will like models without a drainer, consisting only of the bowl. Such models are ideal for people who like order in the kitchen and do not plan to leave the dishes on top to dry. It can also be supplemented with a free-standing dish dryer.

Which technical solution should we choose?

The sinks we can choose from can be installed on the top of a cabinet, inset, or mounted under the worktop. Lay-on sinks- once very popular, today, are rarely picked. To be able to install such a sink, you need to have a cabinet without a worktop on which the sink will be placed, and the choice of models is quite limited. The selection is much wider in the case of inset sinks. We can choose a hexagonal or corner version, while the bowls can be round, rectangular, or square. You can also buy an undermount model. Here, the worktop must be made of a durable and water-resistant material. This solution is leak-tight, extremely durable, and aesthetic.

Which material?

The most popular are sinks made of stainless steel, granite composites, and ceramics. A novelty are interesting and original combinations of these materials- also with glass.

Made of stainless steel. The surface of steel sinks is durable, resistant to impact, abrasion, chemicals, and high temperatures up to 250 °C.  It can be smooth, and such a finish is known as satin.It is the most elegant finish that presents itself beautifully, but you need to remember that after drying, even clean water (especially hard water) will leave stains and streaks. It is easier to keep a sink clean if it is in the so-called linen or décor finish. Stains and even small scratches are less visible on such a surface. To make the stainless steel sink look like a new one, rinse it with warm water after each use, clean the waste strainer, and wipe everything dry. It is worth using a cleaning agent for cleaning steel sinks.

Made of granite composite. Granite sinks are characterized by high resistance to mechanical and chemical damage and are easy to keep clean. A well-developed composite is extremely hard, resistant to impact, high temperature, discolouration, and thermal shock, which is a rapid change of temperature. It owes all these features to precisely selected composition and high-quality raw material. Granite – the major ingredient of Deante sinks – is extracted from a natural deposit, located 100 metres underground. The aggregate obtained after processing is available in many tints, thanks to which granite sinks are produced not only in many shapes but also in various colours.

Made of ceramics. Ceramic sinks are made of 100% natural materials, namely clay fired at a temperature of about 1300 °C. They are very durable: resistant to impact, high temperature, and thermal shock, which is a rapid change of temperature. The smooth, glazed surface is easy to keep clean, and it does not absorb odours or stains, which is particularly important in the kitchen.

Hybrid. Sinks can also combine two, at first glance, different materials, such as granite, steel, and glass. Thanks to this, while using such a sink, we simultaneously benefit from the advantages of the two materials. Lovers of bold designs will certainly be pleased with the combination of granite and glass. In this case, the color possibilities are almost limitless, as evidenced by the spectacular Capella Precious sinks, finished with dyes with the addition of precious metals. In turn, the biggest advantage of the Prime steel sink is its versatility. The exceptionally large and deep bowl (40×40 x22 cm) is made of thick steel, perfectly matching modern appliances, which more and more often can be found in our kitchens. It is balanced by granite, which warms the interior and gives it a unique character.

Which sink should we choose?

Once we know which construction solution we are interested in and which material will be most beneficial for us, we can pick the model. In order not to make a mistake, we should measure the cabinet that we want to use to install the sink. We match the size of the sink to the size of the cabinet. The sink should be at least 5 cm smaller than the cabinet so that its bowls fit into without troubles. Now, the only thing that we need to do is to choose a model in terms of design and colour.
